LeRoc / Modern Jive classes and parties

LeRoc is an extremely popular dance that is known by a number of different names... Modern Jive, French Jive, as well as a whole range of branded variations. But whatever name you use, LeRoc started when French Modern Jive (or Le Bop) arrived at a club in London in the early 1970s. People saw its potential and its popularity, and started to develop the dance into the LeRoc we know today.

LeRoc is a partner dance, often described as a fusion of traditional jive, salsa, and other latin influences, but with simplified footwork to make it easier to pick up. It is danced in an open hand-to-hand hold, so is less intimidating for people new to dance who don't like the idea of suddenly becoming up close and personal with a stranger, and is danced on the beat to current popular music. So if you can tap your toe to the top forty, you're halfway there!

Types of Events

We are looking at running two different types of naked LeRoc dance events:

  • Class and practice session, with an hour or so of tuition at the start of the event for people new to partner dancing, followed by open dancing for as long as you like.
  • Freestyle events, where we provide the location, the music, and the mood, and you just come along to dance.

We will suggest some possible locations for these events soon, but if you have any suggestions of your own then please let us know.

Argentine Tango

Argentine Tango is often described as a sensual and seductive form of dance, but is also be extremely social. Milongas (the events where Argentine Tango is danced) are a time for everyone to get together to talk, relax, listen to the music, and of course to dance. So why not try it out naked?

Our milongas primarily feature modern blues-style music rather than the traditional early 20th century Argentinian music favoured by others. We believe that tango is a modern and relevant dance, and so the music we dance to should reflect that.

In a traditional milonga everyone switches partners after every three songs so you get to dance with a lot of different people, but we understand that in a naked environment many people would be unhappy with dancing with someone other than their own partner. Dancing with other people, therefore, is entirely up to you, and we would insist that everyone is respectful of other dancers' wishes.

Note: Ladies will probably need to wear shoes in order to facilitate the pivots and turns of this dance, but we would ask you to be extremely careful if you are wearing heels as there will be a lot of bare feet in the room. Ballet shoes (non-pointe) are a good alternative.

Types of Events

We are looking at running two different types of naked Argentine Tango events:

  • Naked tango classes in blocks of five, aimed at beginners or improvers. These would be followed by a short practice session.
  • Milonga Desnuda, where we provide the location, the music, and the mood, and you just come along to dance.

We will suggest some possible locations for these events soon, but if you have any suggestions of your own then please let us know.
